Gifted and talented children are really diverse, because of this not all the students exhibit all characteristics all the time. Even though all students won't exhibit all the characteristics that many gifted and talented individuals share.

Educators need to be able to identify the gifted students from the higher achievers since they are two totally different kind of student and tend to be confused at times.
Because no two students are alike is important for the educator to collect not only information about the student performance but also the potential through a combination of objectives.

Profiles of Gifted and talented students
- Type I- The Successful As many as 90% of the gifted students are identify as type I. They learn how to behave, listen to their parents and teachers. Type I students tend to do good in life. Type II- The Challenging
- Type II students are the divergently gifted. Many schools tent to fail to identify this types of giftedness. Students tend to feel frustrated and may feel excluded as a social group.
- Type III- The Underground Generally for this type of gifted students are middle school females. Some males may also be classify as type III, but mainly are females. They tend to denied their talent in order to fit in and feel included with other non-gifted students.
- Type IV- The Dropout Type IV are high school students although rarely there's elementary students. they are mostly angry at all times with adults and the system that has fail to feet their needs. These types of students tent to be depressed, act out and withdraw from everything related to school. They feel rejected and neglected.
- Type V- The Double –Labeled Type V students are the students who are physically or emotionally handicapped in some kind of way. also if they have any kind of learning disabilities. The majority of the programs do not identify these kinds of students. They will deny that they are bore during and assignment.
- Type VI- The Autonomous Learner Types VI students are autonomous learners. They are independent and self-directed. They are able to take risk and personal goals.
